While putting away inventory earlier today I realized we stock 11 different weights and blends of engine oil. It got me thinking to when I first started in the auto industry almost every car used 10W40 and now almost 40 years later, we don't even stock it anymore. In the late 80's in a push for better fuel economy 10W30 and 5W30 became the popular weights. Some time in the late 90's early 2000's Honda followed by Toyota started using a 5W20 synthetic blend in their engines. Then the transition began to full synthetic 0W20. Today I made a spot on the wall for 0W16, which Toyota has started to use. Where am going with this? Be very wary of the menu priced low ball oil changes. Not only can your fuel mileage be effected, but the wrong weight engine oil can cause engine damage and will most definitely void your vehicles warranty. At Roberts Car Care you can be assured your vehicle will always get the proper engine oil, transmission fluid and coolant. That brings me to transmission fluids, but that'll be the subject of my next blog. Happy Motoring
